The Society's Library

The AHS Library is situated at the Guildhall, Aldermanbury, London. The nearest underground stations, within short walking distance, are St Paul's, Mansion House, Bank and Moorgate giving easy access from all main line stations. Car parking is virtually impossible near the Guildhall. The library is open Monday to Saturday 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (closed Bank Holiday weekends including Saturdays) and no formalities are necessary to enter or use the library. A computer catalogue provides bibliographic details of all printed books in the AHS, Clockmakers, and Guildhall libraries. The catalogue is also accessible through the Guildhall website. A new on-line search page for the catalogue of books was introduced by the City of London Libraries in mid-2008 and is accessible here. For those more familiar with the old search page, it is still accessible here.

Please note that the adjacent Clockmakers Company Museum is now open on Saturdays. Opening times are Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 4.45pm. Click here for more details of the museum.

Books are available by request and delivery is normally within 5-15 minutes. No loan facilities are available. Many additional books have been placed in our library during recent years which has widened its scope.

Donations and bequests of books or libraries are always welcome. It is particularly helpful if no restrictions are placed on the disposal of any duplicates that might arise. Alternative books would be purchased from the proceeds of any sales. Another successful method of providing books for the library is to set up a memorial fund by donating a capital sum and purchasing books from the interest. These books can be appropriately labelled as a permanent dedication.
